Your One-Stop Chemical Solvent Supply Expert - Richnow Chem
Isooctyl Alcohol, available in 99.5% and 99.9% concentrations, is produced via advanced oxo synthesis (hydroformylation) technology from heptene followed by hydrogenation . It features excellent solvency power, slow evaporation rate, and a characteristic faint, pleasant odor . As a mixture of closely related isomeric, primary alcohols with branched chains such as 6-methyl-1-heptanol, it is widely used as a key intermediate in the production of plasticizers, surfactants, and synthetic lubricants . Its high purity and consistent quality make it ideal for critical industrial applications requiring precise chemical properties. Each batch is rigorously tested using GC analysis to ensure consistent quality meeting industrial standards.
Scope of Application
Used as a key intermediate for the production of plasticizers including phthalate esters (DOP), adipate esters (DOA), and trimellitate esters (TOTM) for flexible PVC and other polymer applications ;
Acts as an intermediate for the synthesis of acrylate esters (acrylic acid esters) used in coatings, adhesives, and sealants ;
Widely applied in the production of nonionic surfactants, detergents, emulsifiers, and dispersing agents ;
Functions as a solvent for nitrocellulose, urea resins, enamels, alkyd varnishes, and lacquers in the coatings industry ;
Used in the manufacture of synthetic drying oils, cutting oils, lubricating oils, and hydraulic fluids ;
Serves as an antifoaming agent in industrial processes and as a defoamer in water-based systems such as white latex ;
Product Features
Isooctyl Alcohol is manufactured using advanced hydroformylation and fractionation technologies, ensuring consistent quality and precise purity control. The product is a mixture of closely related isomeric, primary alcohols with branched chains, primarily consisting of isomers such as 6-methyl-1-heptanol . It features excellent solvency for a wide range of organic compounds, resins, and polymers, with a boiling point of 367°F (186°C) providing slow evaporation characteristics ideal for applications requiring extended open time . Its molecular weight of 130.22-130.23 g/mol and specific gravity of 0.832-0.834 at 20°C offer predictable handling properties . The product exhibits very limited solubility in water (approximately 0.1% at 20°C) while being miscible with alcohols, ethers, and most organic solvents .
